Colten Brewer has experienced a whirlwind period in his life recently.

The right-handed pitcher took time away from the Yankees organization this week for the birth of his child.

Now, Brewer has decided to leave the Yankees system entirely.

He activated a veteran opt-out clause in his contract, as the Yankees did not promote him from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, leading him to become a free agent and explore new opportunities.

It is unclear which team might sign the 32-year-old, but he will likely prioritize options that offer the best path to returning to MLB.

This season in Triple-A, Brewer has recorded a 3.94 ERA over 29.2 innings.

In his major league career, he has pitched 120 innings with a 5.10 ERA, including time with the Red Sox, Cubs, Padres, and Yankees.

He played for the Yankees in 2023, joined the Cubs for 2024, and returned to the Yankees' organization this year, though he has not yet been called up to the majors.

Brewer was selected as a fourth-round pick by the Pirates in 2011 out of high school in Texas.

The 6-foot-4, 222-pound right-hander now faces the next challenge: securing a new team.
