The Los Angeles Lakers have secured DeAndre Ayton as their starting center, a move viewed as a calculated risk given his affordable contract and motivation to rebuild his reputation on a competitive team. However, recent rumors suggest the Lakers are still seeking to strengthen their frontcourt and are interested in adding another big man to their roster.
One key target has been Al Horford, who, at nearly 40 years old, continues to deliver strong performances and could be a valuable asset for a team like the Lakers.
Unfortunately, it appears the Lakers will be outbid for Horford's services in the upcoming season.
According to The Stein Line, all signs point to Al Horford joining the Golden State Warriors soon. This signing can become official starting Sunday, the first day of the 2025-26 NBA salary cap year.
This development is a setback for the Lakers, who wanted to add a veteran with championship experience to their lineup as a stretch five, making him an ideal backup to Ayton.
Now, it seems their West Coast rivals will secure Horford in the coming days. As a result, the Lakers will need to prioritize other free agency targets, as this dream signing is likely off the table.
Perhaps the Lakers avoided a potential challenge by not adding another aging star, or maybe he was the perfect fit for their championship ambitions.
