Vincent Tan, the owner of Cardiff City, is expected to reject a takeover bid from a consortium led by Gareth Bale, according to Sky Sports.
It is understood that Bale submitted an offer below the owners' valuation, and it is likely to be turned down.
The offer was £20 million, which is less than the reported £40 million valuation.
Other, higher bids are currently available for purchasing Cardiff from Tan.
It is unclear if Bale's consortium will make a revised offer, but one is probable given his public interest in acquiring his hometown club.
In June, Bale told Sky Sports News: "We are interested in acquiring Cardiff."
"It's my home club, where I grew up, and my uncle played for them. Being part of an ownership group would be a dream come true."
