Paul Pogba has expressed his desire to return to the French national team, emphasizing that the process involves several key stages, as he was officially unveiled by AS Monaco on Thursday.

The former Manchester United and Juventus midfielder joined the Ligue 1 club on a free transfer following an 18-month doping ban, after testing positive for DHEA, a substance that increases testosterone levels.

"It is every French footballer's dream to represent the France national team, but there are stages to navigate," Pogba stated during his presentation in Monaco.

The 2018 World Cup winner has accumulated 91 caps for France, with his most recent appearance in March 2022 and his last club match for Juventus in September 2023.

He has signed a two-year contract with Monaco to revitalize his career, with sources indicating that the 32-year-old declined a high-value offer from a Saudi Pro League team.

"Right now, I'm at stage one—focusing on returning and performing strongly," he said.

"There are positions to secure, and they must be earned, as it's a highly talented and cohesive group."

Pogba's teammate, former Tottenham Hotspur defender Eric Dier—who was also introduced by Monaco on Thursday—shared his enthusiasm about Pogba's return to French football.

"Pogba's arrival at AS Monaco is undoubtedly exciting for the club and the French league as a whole," Dier told French media.

"I've faced Paul on the pitch multiple times and know his exceptional abilities. Everyone does. I'm thrilled to see him back in action, especially up close as a teammate."

Monaco, who finished third in the league last season, aims to challenge Paris Saint-Germain for the Ligue 1 title with new signings like Pogba, Dier, and Ansu Fati on loan from Barcelona.

"Everyone recognizes Paul Pogba's quality as a player, and I'm delighted he's joined Monaco," Fati said.

"The entire football world is pleased to see him back. He was among the best, whether for club or country. I hope we have a successful season together to elevate the club to its deserved level.

"Having him here feels like a dream; he's a player I've admired since childhood. At La Masia, he was an idol for me and my friends—we all discussed him and sought to learn more.

"Playing alongside him is an incredible opportunity, and I aim to make the most of it."

Pogba's career highlights include four league titles and two Italian Cups with Juventus, as well as the Europa League during his tenure at United.
