Athletic Club Official:
The Athletic winger is tied to his beloved club for the next ten seasons, and his release clause has increased by more than 50% compared to what it was.
Athletic Club and Nico Williams have reached an agreement to extend his contract, which was scheduled to end in 2027, for eight seasons, until June 30, 2035. His release clause has increased by more than 50% compared to the previous one.
“When decisions have to be made, for me, what weighs most is my heart. I am where I want to be, with my people, this is my home. Go Athletic!” Nico Williams declared in the video in which the Club announced his renewal.
This latest display of loyalty marks a milestone in the Red and Whites' history and confirms a path of trust in the sporting project already initiated by, among other teammates, Unai Simón, Oihan Sancet, Dani Vivian, Mikel Jauregizar, Beñat Prados, and Ernesto Valverde himself... and, of course, his brother Iñaki Williams, the captain of this already historic and generational team. He will continue to wear the number 10 inherited from Iker Muniain, with the Champions League as his new stage. His step forward in the face of daunting offers is a resounding success for Athletic Club, a true Athletic WIN (Williams, Iñaki, and Nico).
Ambitious Lions who not only want to win, but also want to do so with Athletic, with the team they love, aware that in sports, the greater the difficulty, the greater the merit.
Nico Williams (Iruñea, 2002) joined Athletic Club as an under-12 player in the 2013/14 season, a year after his brother Iñaki arrived at Lezama. Since then, he has completed all stages of Athletic Club's development until his debut as a Lion on April 28, 2021, at just 18 years old. In his five seasons with the first team to date, he has played a total of 167 official matches and has won a Cup title, in addition to qualifying for the Europa League (where the team reached the semi-finals) and for the Champions League this past season.
Nico Williams' contribution to Athletic Club in recent seasons has been decisive, making a difference in attack thanks to his speed and skill, scoring 31 goals, creating numerous chances, and being a constant nightmare for opposing defenses. Beyond his formidable performance on the pitch, Nico Williams' international reach has been immense, becoming a valuable ambassador for the Athletic brand around the world. For example, he was named MVP of the Euro 2024 final (where he won with the Spanish national team) and was included in the Ballon d'Or nominations (15th).
Athletic's freely chosen sporting philosophy is a unique trait that makes the Club, its membership (owners of the club), and its fans proud. The step forward Nico Williams has taken with this renewal fills the entire Athletic Club family with pride and paints a picture of a future as ambitious as it is exciting.
This is the famous Athletic, the famous Athletic Club.
