Kylian Mbappé is nearing his FIFA Club World Cup debut in Real Madrid's round of 16 match against Juventus, with coach Xabi Alonso stating it is a "big possibility" that the forward will be fit to play.

Mbappé, 26, missed all three of Madrid's group stage games—against Al Hilal, Pachuca, and RB Salzburg—after being diagnosed with acute gastroenteritis just before the tournament began.

Real Madrid advanced to the knockout stages by winning Group H, setting up a clash with Italian giants Juventus at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, and Alonso is optimistic that the France international Mbappé will finally feature.

"Kylian is recovering well, and we're in touch every day," Alonso told reporters. "We'll discuss with him in the morning to make the final call.

"It's a big possibility that he makes his Club World Cup debut tomorrow, though. I can't specify exactly how much, but it's a big possibility."

Having taken over from Carlo Ancelotti as coach at the end of the 2024-25 season, Alonso is less than a month into his new role at Madrid after departing Bayer Leverkusen. The former Madrid, Liverpool, and Bayern Munich midfielder emphasized that his real challenge begins on Tuesday with the high-stakes Juventus game.

"Every match from now on is all or nothing," Alonso said. "This is a massive game, and we've been preparing for the past few weeks to be ready for tomorrow.
