Tenerife starlet Aarón Martín is attracting interest from LaLiga giants Real Madrid, having made a hugely impressive start to his senior career this season.
Handed his first-team debut for Tenerife in September, the 17-year-old midfielder has amply demonstrated his talent in his first nine appearances for the Canary Islanders. He scored his first goal for the Spanish second-tier club against Real Zaragoza in October, in a league clash that witnessed a stand-out display from the teenager despite his team’s 3-2 defeat.
Real Madrid eye initial Castilla role for Martín
Madrid believe Martín would make an instant impact for Castilla, the Spanish and European champions’ ‘B’ team, and in the long term has the potential to become an important player for the club’s senior side. The youngster is also interesting clubs such as Sevilla, who would be ready to give him an immediate spot in the first-team squad at the Estadio Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán.
How much would Martín cost?
It’s thought that Martín, who possesses excellent vision and a deft right foot, would attract a transfer fee of around €2 million ($2.08 million). He is the latest major talent to be developed on the Canary Islands in recent years, following the emergence of players such as Barcelona’s Pedri and Las Palmas’ Alberto Moleiro, who both graduated from the youth set up in Gran Canaria.
Martín’s rise through the Tenerife ranks has been meteoric. Head coach Pepe Mel, who also gave Pedri his debut at Las Palmas, has brought the player into the senior fold almost straight from Tenerife’s under-19s. Martín made just a few appearances for the ‘B’ team before earning his first-team bow.
Scouts have been tracking Martín for some time now, but his quick adaptation to senior soccer has placed major clubs, such as Madrid, on red alert.
