Kylian Mbappé's spectacular bicycle kick was one of three goals scored in second-half stoppage time, helping Real Madrid defeat Borussia Dortmund 3-2 in the Club World Cup quarterfinals on Saturday. This victory sets up a semifinal against Paris Saint-Germain at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

Dortmund's Maximilian Beier scored three minutes into stoppage time, and Mbappé, who substituted in at the 67th minute, quickly restored Real Madrid's two-goal lead with his stunning effort just one minute later.

Serhou Guirassy converted a penalty kick in the eighth minute of added time after being fouled by Dean Huijsen, who was sent off with a red card and will miss the semifinals.

In a thrilling conclusion, Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois tipped away Marcel Sabitzer's shot with his fingertips, denying a potential equalizer on the final play.

Real Madrid now focuses on Mbappé's former team, Paris Saint-Germain, who advanced with a 2-0 win over Bayern Munich. The winners will face either Fluminense or Chelsea in the final.

Under sunny conditions with an 86-degree Fahrenheit (30-degree Celsius) temperature at the 3 p.m. kickoff, Gonzalo García scored in the 10th minute and Fran García in the 20th, giving Madrid a 2-0 lead.

The 21-year-old Gonzalo García, who has made only five Spanish league appearances in the past two seasons, started over Mbappé, who was still recovering from acute gastroenteritis. García now has four goals, tying him with Benfica's Ángel Di María and Al Hilal's Marcos Leonardo for the tournament lead.

"We've seen him perform well in recent games, and today he did it again. He's seizing his opportunities," said Real Madrid's new coach Xabi Alonso.

"He's in the right place at the right time, and we're thrilled with his contributions—he's also scoring goals."

Mbappé replaced Jude Bellingham, who missed the chance to face his brother Jobe, suspended due to yellow card accumulation.

Real Madrid previously beat Dortmund 2-0 in the 2024 Champions League final and staged a comeback from a two-goal deficit for a 5-2 win in this season's league phase.

American midfielder Gio Reyna remained on the bench and ended the tournament with just one 13-minute appearance for Dortmund across five matches.

The match drew 76,611 fans to MetLife Stadium, which will host next year's World Cup final.

A moment of silence was observed before kickoff in memory of Liverpool's Diogo Jota and his brother, Penafiel's André Silva, who tragically died in a car crash on Thursday.
