Bayern Munich remain in "open discussion" with Leroy Sane over a contract extension amid links with Manchester United and Arsenal.
The Red Devils are reportedly closely monitoring several Bayern stars, including Sane and midfielder Leon Goretzka, as potential transfer targets. With the former Manchester City star having just one year remaining on his contract, United could attempt to lure him back to English shores as part of their squad overhaul in 2025.
Sane has struggled with injuries, particularly following groin surgery during the summer. As a result, he has only appeared in four brief matches for Bayern so far this season, playing a total of 78 minutes. Hence the Bavarians are taking a cautious approach to the contract talks and his performances on the pitch will determine if Sane stays in Bavaria or returns to English football.
Sporting director Max Eberl confirmed talks over a new contract are ongoing, saying: "Now it's important that Leroy feels comfortable again and can show what he can do on the pitch again. We are in open communication with his agent and as soon as there is a decision, we will announce it."
According to Sport Bild, financial considerations complicate Sane’s contract negotiations. When he moved to Bayern from City, the winger agreed to a €5 million reduction in his annual salary, now earning around €20 million (£17m/$22m) per year. With his deal set to expire, Sane’s camp is reportedly seeking a more lucrative extension that reflects his value to the team. However, ongoing injury concerns have forced Bayern to take a measured negotiation approach.
Sane might feature against Stuttgart in the Bundesliga on Saturday and the forward will look to make the most of the opportunity to impress Kompany and his potential suitors - United and Arsenal. A good performance might hand him a starting berth against Barcelona in the Champions League on October 23, which will be a massive stage to make a statement about his form.
