Bernardo Silva dismisses the notion that Manchester City’s unexpected exit from the Club World Cup is a blessing in disguise.

The Premier League team was eliminated in the early hours of Tuesday morning, losing 4-3 in extra time to Saudi side Al-Hilal in a thrilling last-16 match in Orlando.

Manchester City were among the top favorites after dominating their group stage with three straight wins.

Reaching the final would have extended their season until July 13, just five weeks before the next Premier League campaign starts.

Amid discussions on player welfare, some believe City—following a disappointing 2024-25 season—need the break, but Silva disagrees.

The City captain stated: "No one wanted to lose. We're accustomed to minimal holidays due to the packed schedule, and we treat every competition with utmost seriousness."

"We had high ambitions for this Club World Cup and aimed to win it."

When asked if the defeat stings as much as their Champions League exit, Silva replied: "Yes, a little bit. Yes."
