Manchester City goals: Bernardo Silva (9), Erling Haaland (55), Phil Foden (104)

Al Hilal goals: Marcos Leonardo (46 & 112), Malcom (52), Kalidou Koulibaly (94)

Marcos Leonardo clinched a memorable victory for Al Hilal over Manchester City in the Round of 16 of the FIFA Club World Cup™, transforming the match into an instant classic. Simone Inzaghi's team will return to Camping World Stadium in Orlando on Friday to battle Fluminense FC for a semi-final spot.

Bernardo Silva pounced on a loose ball to give City an early lead, while an outstanding save from the onrushing Yassine Bounou prevented Savinho from doubling the advantage.

If the first half was engaging, the opening 12 minutes of the second half were electrifying. Rapid goals from Marcos Leonardo and Malcom propelled Al Hilal ahead, before Erling Haaland leveled the score from a corner. The referee initially awarded a penalty after Malcom outmaneuvered Ruben Dias and was fouled, but the call was overturned due to offside.

Manchester City mounted relentless attacks on the Al Hilal goal for the rest of the half, yet Bounou made several crucial saves, and when Haaland appeared to secure a late winner, Ali Lajami cleared it off the line with a heroic effort.

Al Hilal regained the lead early in extra time as Kalidou Koulibaly headed in a Ruben Neves corner, but substitute Phil Foden equalized with a precise finish. Penalties seemed inevitable until Ederson denied Sergej Milinkovic-Savic's header, allowing Marcos Leonardo to pounce and score the decisive goal for a monumental upset.

Stats

Manchester City has scored in the first 10 minutes across all four of their matches in this competition, with goals from Phil Foden in the second minute, Ilkay Gundogan in the eighth, Jeremy Doku in the ninth, and Bernardo Silva in the ninth.

Erling Haaland has recorded four goal contributions at this FIFA Club World Cup, with only Michael Olise of FC Bayern München surpassing him with five.
