Sergio Ramos and Rayados de Monterrey are among the few Concacaf teams that advanced to the Round of 16 at this summer's Club World Cup, and they aim to extend their impressive run.
Monterrey enters Tuesday's match against Borussia Dortmund as the underdogs, but they are eager to challenge and potentially upset a major European powerhouse.
The Group Stage featured several upsets, including Monterrey's commendable 1-1 draw against Champions League finalists Inter Milan. Dortmund, on the other hand, played to a goalless draw against Brazil's Fluminense.
Despite this, Dortmund topped Group F with back-to-back victories over Ulsan and Mamelodi Sundowns after their initial draw. Monterrey finished second in Group E with five points, earned from draws against Inter Milan and River Plate, plus a win against Urawa Red Diamonds.
The matchup will showcase star players, with Monterrey featuring talents like Sergio Ramos, Sergio Canales, Oliver Torres, and Lucas Ocampos. Borussia Dortmund counters with players such as Karim Adeyemi, Serhou Guirassy, and Jobe Bellingham, the younger brother of Jude Bellingham.
Both teams are on the same side of the draw as Real Madrid, meaning if the Spanish giants defeat Juventus and reach the quarter-finals, they will face the winner of this Dortmund vs. Monterrey clash.
