Liverpool star and top scorer Mohamed Salah is looking to extend his stay with the club, however, the board has not made any approach to offer a new contract.
According to information from The Athletic, the Egyptian forward wants to stay at the club - he is keen to cement his status as a club legend by continuing to add to his extraordinary figures record and become a reference at the club. But given the lack of initiative from those in power to offer a contract extension, the player’s frustration is beginning to grow.
No word from the club on Salah’s future
The player’s contractual situation is a mystery that is fuelled by the club’s silence. Although a few weeks ago the player assured that his departure from Liverpool was closer than a renewal, in various interviews he has made clear his love for the club, the city and his desire to stay.
According to the rumors that are doing the rounds, Mo’s main desire is to agree a long-term contract that guarantees him at least three more seasons, but he is willing to accept a rolling one-year deal if an agreement is reached with the management.
Salah is the highest-paid player in the club’s history, thanks to his last contract extension, and that is without counting all the bonuses and extra payments to which he is entitled.
The 32-year-old has been a key player in every season he has played and has been instrumental in Liverpool maintaining their position as the absolute leader of the competition with a comfortable lead over second place, making them serious title contenders in Slot’s first season in charge.
Salah, irreplaceable at Anfield
The Egyptian is just behind Manchester City’s Erling Haaland in the Premier League goal scorer standings with 11 goals and seven assists. He has broken numerous, long-standing goal scoring records at the club and is sure to break more before this season is out.
However, Salah is one of three first team players whose contracts expire in June.
He, along with Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold will be able to start talking to other clubs from 1 January 2025 - four weeks from now.
From next month, he will be able to sign pre-contracts with interested clubs, who will have the chance to sign one of the world’s top players as a free agent.
