Thomas Partey, once a midfielder for Arsenal, has been charged by the Metropolitan Police Service with five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault.

According to the police, these offenses allegedly occurred between 2021 and 2022, involving two counts of rape against one woman, three counts against a second woman, and one count of sexual assault against a third woman.

The Metropolitan Police, responsible for Greater London, stated that the investigation began in February 2022 after an initial report of rape.

The 32-year-old is scheduled to appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court on August 5.

His lawyer, Jenny Wiltshire, told the Press Association that Partey "denies all charges against him" and welcomes the chance to clear his name.

Arsenal stated to ESPN: "The player's contract ended on June 30. Due to ongoing legal proceedings, the club is unable to comment on the case."

Partey joined Arsenal in a £45 million ($61.42 million) transfer from Atlético Madrid in 2020 and has been a free agent since his contract expired on Monday.

Detective Superintendent Andy Furphy, leading the investigation, said: "Our priority is supporting the women who have come forward."

"We encourage anyone affected by this case or with information to contact our team by emailing [email protected]."

As a Ghana international, Partey made 35 Premier League appearances last season, scoring four goals as Arsenal finished second in the league.

He also appeared in 12 matches during Arsenal's Champions League semi-final run, where they were eliminated by Paris Saint-Germain.

Jaswant Narwal, Chief Crown Prosecutor for CPS London North, announced: "The Crown Prosecution Service has authorized the prosecution of Thomas Partey for multiple counts of rape after reviewing comprehensive evidence."

"Prosecutors worked closely with Metropolitan Police officers to review evidence and advise on charges. Criminal proceedings are active, and the defendant has a right to a fair trial. We urge avoiding any reporting or online commentary that could prejudice the case."
