Alarm and concern during Fiorentina’s home game against Inter Milan which was suspended with little over a quarter of an hour gone with the score at 0-0.
On 17 minutes, while the teams were protesting with the referee for a disallowed goal by Lautaro Martínez, Fiore midfielder Edoardo Bove collapsed to the ground causing a great commotion both on an off the pitch.
Bove taken to nearby hospital in Fiorentina
Bove appeared to be tying his boot laces during a break in play. As he got to his feet, he trotted several yards then slumped to the floor. Inter wingback Denzel Dumfries immediately called for medical aid.
Medical staff ran on to attend the Viola midfielder in scenes reminiscent of Christian Eriksen’s collapse during Euro 2021. Sky Sport Italia report that Bove was unconscious but able to breathe on his own, without aid.
After a few moments of unbearable tension, on an eerily silent Stadio Comunale Artemio Franchi, the 22-year-old player was admitted to Careggi Hospital, close to the stadium and the game called off.
