Inter Milan captain Lautaro Martínez was outspoken following their 2-0 defeat to Fluminense on Monday, condemning the team's uninspired performance that resulted in their elimination from the Club World Cup in the round of 16.

The Nerazzurri were outplayed by a determined Fluminense team, unable to mount a serious challenge until the final minutes, which left Martínez, the forward, deeply disappointed as he urged his squad to demonstrate more dedication.

"I am determined to compete for the biggest trophies. If you're committed to Inter, let's battle together. If not, it's time to go," the Argentine striker stated to the media.

"We require players who are fully invested. We're donning a prestigious jersey. A championship mentality is essential; otherwise, please depart."

Entering the revamped Club World Cup as favourites, Inter had a mixed tournament: they secured a 2-0 victory against River Plate in the group stage, clinched a last-minute win over Japan's Urawa Red Diamonds, and drew 1-1 with Mexico's Monterrey.

This round-of-16 exit compounds a disappointing season where they missed out on domestic titles and suffered a 5-0 thrashing by Paris Saint-Germain in the recent Champions League final.

"It has been an exhausting and fruitless season. This is a broad message," Martínez continued.

"To remain at the elite level and vie for championships, we must show real hunger... I extend my apologies to the fans who traveled to support us. As captain, I am committed to maintaining our standards."

Inter will begin their Serie A season with a home match against Torino in August.
