Barcelona forward Ansu Fati has joined Monaco on a season-long loan ahead of the 2025-26 campaign, as confirmed by the Spanish club.

The LaLiga side has also announced that Fati, 22, has extended his contract with Barça until the end of the 2027-28 season.

The deal includes an option for Monaco to make the transfer permanent next summer if Fati performs well in Ligue 1.

Fati was drawn to the opportunity of playing in France and competing in the Champions League, aiming to revitalize his career after limited playing time at Barça over the past 12 months, according to ESPN.

He made 11 appearances in all competitions under Hansi Flick, with only three starts and a total of 297 minutes played.

After bursting onto the scene at age 16 in 2019, Fati's progress was hampered by a series of injuries in the following years.

He joined Brighton on loan in 2023, scoring four goals in 27 appearances for the Premier League side before returning to Barça last summer.

In total, he has scored 29 goals in 123 outings for the Catalan club and remains the youngest scorer in Champions League history at 17 years and 40 days old, 28 days younger than teammate Lamine Yamal.

He has earned 10 caps for Spain, scoring two goals, with his last appearance for the national team in 2023.
