Wales captain Aaron Ramsey has signed with Mexican club Pumas UNAM as a free agent, after completing a two-year spell at his boyhood team Cardiff City, as announced by the Liga MX side on Thursday.
The former Arsenal and Juventus midfielder has agreed to a one-year contract with Pumas, following his brief stint as interim manager for Cardiff before the club's relegation to League One in April.
"I'm thrilled and at a strong point in my career to advance. I understand the expectations for this club and am committed to contributing and helping in every way possible," the 34-year-old Ramsey stated at his presentation.
"I'm excited about this new challenge and playing with talented teammates."
Ramsey is best known for his 12-year tenure at Arsenal, where he played 369 games for the North London club, won three FA Cups, and was named Player of the Season twice before moving to Juventus in 2019.
Sharing an agent with Pumas head coach Efrain Juarez, Ramsey has expressed his desire to compete at the highest level and target a key role with Wales at the 2026 World Cup.
"I have gained extensive experience in my career, which positions me well," Ramsey added. "I aim to fulfill my role, achieve our seasonal objectives, and embrace the excitement of this challenge."
Pumas will face Spanish side Leganes in a friendly on Sunday before starting their Apertura campaign against Santos Laguna on July 12. Ramsey is also expected to feature in the team's upcoming CONCACAF Champions Cup matches.
