Cristiano Ronaldo has shared an emotional tribute to Diogo Jota after the 28-year-old Liverpool and Portugal forward died in a car accident in Spain, along with his brother.
Diogo Jota and his younger brother André were killed when their Lamborghini veered off the A-52 highway near Zamora in the early hours of Thursday. Local authorities believe a tire blowout caused the vehicle to lose control while overtaking, leading it to catch fire.
In his tribute, Ronaldo said: “It doesn’t make sense. We were just together with the national team, and you had just gotten married. To your family, your wife, and your children, I send my deepest condolences and wish them strength. I know you’ll always be with them.”
He concluded with: “Rest in peace, Diogo and André. We’ll all miss you.”
Jota had just married Rute Cardoso on June 22 and left behind three children under the age of five. Tributes have poured in from Liverpool and the global football community.
