Former Lecce full-back Patrick Dorgu made his Manchester United debut in tonight's FA Cup tie, but while the fans were impressed, they criticised the fact that he was played out of position.
The 20-year-old made the move to Old Trafford after several weeks of negotiations, with Lecce finally agreeing to a €30 million bid, plus a further €5 million in various bonuses.
He'd enjoyed a fine campaign with Lecce, scoring three goals and adding an assist in 21 Serie A appearances, but was playing out of his natural position on the left.
Fans were thrilled when Ruben Amorim announced that Dorgu would start tonight's FA Cup tie against Leicester City, only to be confused when they realised he'd be on the right flank instead.
The former Lecce man impressed with his pace and won six tackles in the first half, more than any other player on the pitch, but was withdrawn at half-time with Manchester United trailing 1-0.
Supporters reacted angrily, accusing coach Amorim of playing the new signing in the wrong position and wondering why the search for a left-sided wing-back had been such a big part of their January transfer strategy in the first place.
