Sky Sports' Adam Bate at Anfield:
"Manuel Ugarte and Kobbie Mainoo had lost all four of the games that they had started together prior to the trip to Anfield, three of those coming under Ruben Amorim. But there were some positive signs that it is a pairing that can work for Manchester United.
"In fairness to the duo, they were both hooked after an hour at Wolves, Bruno Fernandes having been sent off with the game goalless, while two of Bournemouth’s three goals were scored after Ugarte was substituted early in the second half of that one.
"They had longer together against Liverpool and were more than a match for Liverpool’s celebrated midfield trio. There were only two players on the pitch who made two tackles in the match and those two players were Ugarte and Mainoo. That is more like it.
"It was a world away from the sight of Casemiro and Christian Eriksen being bullied in the first half of that insipid defeat to Newcastle last time out. There were moments of quality too but first and foremost, Ugarte and Mainoo covered ground and competed.
"Amorim talked afterwards of it being a mentality shift rather than anything tactical and he will have liked what he saw from his midfield two, although he opted to stop short of singling out Ugarte for praise when his display was mentioned in the press conference.
"He did describe the Uruguayan as ‘the only guy that I know really well’ having worked with him at Sporting. But after this performance he might feel he knows one or two others a little better too. Perhaps Ugarte and Mainoo is something he can build around."
