Palmeiras manager Abel Ferreira has urged teenage winger Estêvão to showcase his skills against Chelsea on Friday and assist his current team in eliminating his future employers from the Club World Cup.
The highly-rated winger was signed by Chelsea last year in a deal worth an initial €34 million ($40 million), with performance-related add-ons that could increase the total to around €67 million ($78.8 million), according to ESPN.
After staying in Brazil for this season, he is scheduled to join the Premier League club in July, once the Club World Cup concludes.
All eyes will be on the 18-year-old as Palmeiras faces Chelsea in Friday's quarterfinal in Philadelphia.
Ferreira described Estêvão as 'a spectacular kid' and, despite the unique circumstances, affirmed that he remains fully committed to the club for the rest of the tournament.
'While he's with us, he has responsibilities and commitments to uphold. Afterward, he'll be free to move to Chelsea. Until then, he'll give his all, and there's no better farewell than helping us in this World Cup,' Ferreira stated during a news conference on Thursday.
'I hope he performs at his best so Chelsea can witness his full potential and quality. It will be a prime chance for him to demonstrate his talent.'
