Former Italy and AC Milan striker Antonio Cassano shared his thoughts on Joao Felix, who was signed by Rossoneri on loan from Chelsea in January, and expressed his disappointment at the lack of consistency in the former Benfica wonderkid's displays in Italy.
Felix has become a footballing nomad, given that he hasn't really managed to carve out a niche for himself at any club since his mega-million move to Atletico Madrid back in 2019. Since leaving Atletico, he has played for Barcelona, Chelsea, and now Milan, without really fulfilling his potential anywhere. In fact, speculation in the recent weeks suggest that the 25-year-old is keen on a move to Galatasaray this summer, with his future in Italy up in the air.
Milan are hesitant to sign Felix permanently and have ruled out negotiations with Chelsea for now. However, if circumstances change, they could trigger the €45m option to buy. Alternatively, they may extend his loan for another year with a €30-35m obligation to purchase in 2026.
“Look, I really love Joao Felix, but I’ve been waiting for seven years for him to flourish and frankly I am sick of waiting now,” Cassano said on the Viva el Futbol podcast (h/t Football Italia).
“I fell in love after the first five months at Benfica, but since then he only plays in fits and starts, then gets passed onto another club. He came to Milan, scored a goal, the first few games were good, then he just disappeared again.”
Felix only played the final 15 minutes for Milan in their 1-1 draw against Inter in the first leg of the Coppa Italia semi-finals on Wednesday. The Portuguese international will next be seen in action on Saturday, April 5, when the Rossoneri take on Fiorentina in a crunch Serie A tie.
