Mount was hooked at half-time during United’s Premier League defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion last weekend, with the midfielder reporting discomfort to the medical staff. The club has since confirmed that Mount has "suffered a minor injury setback that is due to keep him out of action for a few games."
United supporters are frustrated with Mount's injury woes and they have been venting on social media.
@markgoldbridge wrote on X: "Mount out for a number of weeks...new season same story. Chelsea have absolutely had us."
Another United fan, @TenHagBall_, wrote: "I really like Mason Mount as a player but for the price we paid his availability has been so poor. The signing has not worked out at all."
Meanwhile, @racheal_ifedayo, wrote: "I don’t even know what to say. I really don’t."
Whereas, @ezele_nick, said: "Just getting paid for doing absolutely nothing."
And @JoeRikerEvans wants the No.7 to be stripped off Mount: "Can we just take the 7 off him and give it to Garnacho who should have had it anyway?"
Mount, who has already missed 27 games for United due to injury since arriving from Chelsea last summer, voiced his frustrations on Instagram, but also vowed: "I will do everything possible to be back in the best shape and help the team.”
Mount was signed for an initial fee of £55 million, with high expectations surrounding his arrival from Chelsea. However, his first season at Old Trafford was marred by a series of injuries that limited him to just 20 appearances across all competitions.
Last season, during United’s second league game against Tottenham Hotspur, he sustained a similar injury that saw him sidelined for a significant period. Following that, Mount encountered further challenges with a calf injury in November, which kept him out of action for four months. Upon his return, he struggled to regain full fitness, managing only eight more appearances before the season concluded.
Mount’s injury is yet another headache for Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag, who is already grappling with a growing list of sidelined players. The Dutchman was already missing five key players ahead of the Liverpool showdown with Luke Shaw, Rasmus Hojlund, Leny Yoro, Tyrell Malacia and Victor Lindelof all on the treatment table. Mount’s absence further depletes an already stretched squad, complicating Ten Hag’s plans for the crucial fixture.
