Madueke caused a stir when he posted a message on Instagram saying that Wolverhampton is "sh*t" ahead of Chelsea's Premier League visit to Molineux Stadium on Sunday, resulting in the 22-year-old being given a hostile reception by the home fans.
Madueke went on to inflict further pain on the Wolverhampton locals, though, as he scored three goals in the second half of the Premier League clash, sealing a 6-2 victory for the Blues. Speaking after the game, he apologised for his comments.
"I just want to apologise to everyone that I might have offended," he told Premier League Productions. "It is just a human mistake, an accident. It wasn't meant to be out on my socials like that. I'm sure Wolverhampton is a nice town and I'm sorry. In terms of the boos I expected it but it is part of the game. You have to be able to play under that sort of pressure."
Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca also weighed in on Madueke's controversial social media remarks in his post-match press conference, saying: "I trust people and I think people are mature enough to know what is correct and what is not correct. Noni is mature enough to understand what is correct and what is not correct."
Madueke will not have to spend much longer in Wolverhampton as Chelsea head back to London to prepare for their next game - the second leg of their Conference League qualifying tie against Swiss side Servette.
